Indian Network for Fisheries and Animal Antimicrobial Resistance (INFAAR )

In accordance with the National Action Plan to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), with technical and financial support from FAO has forged a network of laboratories from different parts of India to undertake surveillance of AMR in animal health and fisheries sectors. This network has been named as the Indian Network for Fisheries and Animal Antimicrobial Resistance (INFAAR). Currently, the network has 21 members, of which 18 are from ICAR institutions, and the remaining three represent the Universities. Twelve of these represent labs in animal health sectors and nine work in fisheries institutes.

ICAR-National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics, Bengaluru (ICAR -NIVEDI ) coordinates the overall technical and data management operations of the network.

Mission Antimicrobial Resistance ( Department of Biotechnology )

Considering Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) as a global and multi-sectoral threat, the Department of Biotechnology has launched “Mission Antimicrobial Resistance” under the Atal Jai Anusandhan Mission program.

The program aims to develop technology for diagnosis and therapeutics, establish AMR-specific bio-repository, and identify an India-specific priority pathogen list of AMR. Recently, with a vision to be a part of the global effort, India has joined 16 other countries as a Member of the Global Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Research and Development (R&D) Hub.
